Appalled at my emotional reaction, she asked, “Did you think we were going to fill it?!”
I said, “No, I figured out that wasn’t going to happen when I was seven. But I still liked to hang it up.”
And what about my kids?!!
I am left with no other choice but to take up yarn and needles, and painstakingly knit Christmas stockings for my children, who are, sadly, as yet unborn.
We had the same old box of Christmas decorations (stockings included) for YEARS. My whole liftime, as far as I can remember. Then my mom finally gave them to me a couple years ago. It was kinda one of those ‘You have a kid now, I’ll pass on all the traditions to you to keep them going’ things (plus I’m way more sentimental than she seems to be.) Then my storage unit was broken into and everything I’d ever owned stolen. I had to go buy all new decorations this year. It’s fucking depressing.
